Kathy Collinson

Bereavement Counsellor

We are delighted and very privileged to have the support of the lovely Kathy at our well being socials.

For those of you who have yet to meet her in person, here’s an introduction…

Hello, my name is Kathy and I am a fully trained and highly experienced counsellor in bereavement and loss. Also trained and have worked with children and adolescents.  I started my journey in autumn 1997 with Cruse bereavement care Bridlington and district

doing their Basic training course in Bereavement counselling skills.

On the 12th May 1999, I became an accredited Bereavement Counsellor with the Bridlington and District Cruse branch later becoming the Branch referral secretary. This means I took all the messages from the telephone contact line, with messages from potential clients. I assessed that client’s needs and allocated the appropriate counsellor. I became the leader of the outreach team, in this capacity I talked to other organisations including schools about Bereavement, loss and the role of cruse. Lastly, I helped to staff the drop-in centre, when on duty I had to asses a client’s needs and be a facilitator if a group formed.

During this time I began my children counsellor training completing external courses at St Catherine’s Hospice attended a Play

therapy workshop, Children’s Grief workshop and Working with Bereaved Adolescents.

In 2015/16 I decided to restart my journey by doing NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills followed by in 2017 NCFE Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills at East Riding College Bridlington. I am currently at the end of studying for my level 4 Diploma in therapeutic counselling this 2-year part-time course as enabling me to become a fully qualified practitioner where I hope to continue to make a difference to adults, adolescents and children.

I have attended to update my Bereavement counselling skills St Catherine’s Hospice education department and successfully completed all elements of course study and assignments to pass the module “The Application of Counselling skills When Working with Bereavement and loss” April to July 2017.

To update my children and young people counselling I have Attended a two-day workshop at the Ellesmere Centre for psychotherapy and training “Counselling Children and Young People: BACP Basic young People Competences” 24/25th Feb 2018.

I have attended a CPD event-Working on dreams: A Gestalt Approach with Alan Leech in March 2018.

Abuse and Working Creatively 6 hrs. CPD workshop at Inner child potential Centre 88 Saner st Hull. Also, Neurosciences meets counselling workshop and an Inner child workshop both are 6 hrs. CPD registered Workshops.

I successfully completed a comprehensive and practical clinical Hypnotherapy and psychotherapy Diploma, Which is approved and accredited by the General Hypnotherapy standards council, Feb2019I also have a diploma in EFT Emotional Freedom Techniques.

Hello, my name is Geraldine and I am a Grief and Relationship Coach.

It is always a huge privilege to work with clients who choose to work through their grief with me.  As part of my coaching I teach a psycho-educational programme which is called the Grief Recovery Method.  This programme can be a life changer and I have worked with many clients both face to face and online.  I love my work and my passion is to help you complete what is unfinished with your lost relationships so you can rediscover your energy and capacity for happiness.

Once learned, the Grief Recovery Method is a tool for life and I personally use it on a regular basis to help myself with losses and disappointments.  It gives me a sense of peace to have this ‘go-to’ tool on hand should I need it.

I spent the majority of my working career within the NHS, quite often coming into contact with patients and relatives in difficult circumstances.  In 2010 I made the decision to train with Cruse Bereavement Care as one of their support workers.  I spent two years supporting bereaved people  but when I reached my late-forties I experienced a number of losses including the breakdown of a 30 year marriage.

Even though the relationship had been failing for a while I was devastated. Nothing had prepared me for the heartbreak I felt and the other associated losses that came with it.  Because no-one had died I didn’t realise that I was grieving, but I was.  During my quest to find something that would help I became a certified life coach and then in 2016 I discovered the Grief Recovery Method and I’m so thankful that I did.  This was the thing that helped me most.  Not only with the grief around my divorce but also losses long ago in the past which I hadn’t realised were still holding me back.

I am both a Certified Life Coach and Certified Advanced Grief Recovery Specialist. I am registered with the Association of Coaching and hold full public liability insurance.  I am also DBS checked.  My services are available both face to face and also online.
